Richard E. Stanley or "Pa-Dick", as we called him, was born in San Jose, California, on May 24th, 1921. He lived there with his parents and siblings until his 18th birthday when he joined the US Army and subsequently transferred to the US Air Force where served as a B-17 pilot until 1945.
In addition to WWll, Richard was also called up from the reserves to serve in the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he pursued several different jobs. One of the most interesting, as he used to tell us, was working at Disneyland. He started this job as a ride handler and then after personally meeting Walt Disney, was given the chance to use his graphic arts degree by assisting with the background drawings for the Peter Pan movie. He later joined the Railroad where he served many years with the Southern Pacific Rail Road in S. California. He retired as a conductor in 1985.
During his life, he was married twice before finding his soul mate. He met Fabiana Escarcega, a Mexican nurse, in 1970 and married her shortly thereafter. With Fabi, Richard became a world traveler, visiting places such as: Sri Lanka, Tahiti, Bora Bora, Australia, Hong Kong, Europe, Alaska and, of course, Mexico.
Richard and Fabi lived in California, Mexico, Buffalo and San Antonio. In his last "station" at the Waterford, he made many close friends and rarely lost in pool or poker.
He leaves behind his beloved "adopted" daughter, Xochitl; his Aussie adopted son, Bruce; his two beautiful granddaughters, Giselle and Tasha and their husbands, Alex and Phil; and three children from a previous marriage, including his daughter Patti.
PaDick may be gone, but the legacy of his kindness and generosity to others will remain. He always tried to help everyone around him and bring a smile to their faces with his endless jokes and stories. He was a truly remarkable man and will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched.
