Obituary:

Julienne "Julie" Kerr McKinsey (also affectionately known as Morton by some of her grandchildren) passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014. Julie was the 2nd of two children and was born on November 26, 1930, in Bellefonte, PA to Col. Maurice and Therese Kerr.

Col. Kerr was in the Army so they experienced lots of places in their early years. Julie had very fond memories of their time in Hawaii as the family lived just a block from Waikiki Beach where she would swim almost every day with her brother and other family members. They lived in Hawaii until Pearl Harbor was bombed and then, just a few weeks later, they literally slipped out in the night on a Red Cross ship when she was 11 years old. Once they arrived on the mainland, they settled in San Antonio where her Father completed his military career and retired.

She attended Alamo Heights Elementary and Incarnate Word High School. She married twice but spent most of her life as an independent, single mother. Julie worked as a Medical Dictaphone Typist, and was especially proud of her civil service work at Ft. Sam Houston. Julie enjoyed working with all the new physicians at BAMC and was known by many as their Mother away from home.

In her later years after retirement, she continued her motherly role as a nanny to a handful of families. Many of the children thought of her as another grandmother. One of them even asked her to come to his Grandparents' Day lunch "since she was practically his grandmother anyway." This pleased her to no end.

Julie was happiest when spending time with her family and friends. She loved to be outside and feel the warm Texas sun on her face. She and her son Frank planted a garden that was the envy of many neighbors, and she found great pleasure tending to the garden year round. She enjoyed her long walks in the sunshine in the parks around town with her daughter Suzy. Julie and her daughter Laura would go to N. Padre Island almost every summer where they loved to sit on the beach and listen to the waves. She had many opportunities to travel to more exotic beaches but she said N. Padre Island was all she ever needed.

Julie was loved by many and will be dearly missed by her brother, Charles Kerr; son, Frank Farese (Margaret); daughters, Suzanne Farese Greer and Laura McKinsey Tift (Kevin); grandchildren, Rick, Sara, and Frank; one great grandchild Ella, plus one on the way; as well as nieces and nephews.

The family would like to say a very special THANK YOU to the entire staff of Care Choice of Boerne where she resided for almost a year. The family will be having a private Celebration of Life at home and at N. Padre Island.
