Hildegard Christina Klara (Gartmann) Edge passed away in San Antonio on Friday, February 21, 2014, at the age of 89. She was born in Osnabruck, Germany, to August and Johanne (Friederike) Gartmann on April 25, 1924.

Gardening was one of her specialties, along with anything involved in being outside. She was a published Author, a Registered Nurse and held a PhD in Nutrition. Hildegard had a great love for animals and often picked up strays, found their owners or found them a home if she couldn't provide them one, always making sure of their well being. She loved children and sent monthly donations to the Make a Wish Foundation. Hildegard was a member of the Hermann Sons Brunehilde Lodge in San Antonio. Her greatest passion was spending time with her family and friends. She loved to cook and entertain.

She is preceded in death by a sister Erna Kerl, and twin brothers Herman and Willie Gartmann all who resided in Germany. She is also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters-in-law Randall and wife Maxine Edge, Beverly and wife Mildred Edge, and Hazel Connally Patrick.

Hildegard is survived by her husband of 60 years, Zane Gerald Edge and only child, Sabrina Edge Vaughan and Kevin Eckdahl of Boerne. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews in Texas and in Germany.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 25, 2014, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Mission Park North. Memorials may be made in Hildegard's memory to the Hill Country Animal League at 924 N.
