Horace A. Green of Boerne, Texas, passed away on February 18, 2014, after a short illness. He was 81 years old.
Horace was born October 6, 1932, near Gilmer, Texas, to the late Eva Mae Adams and James William Green. He was the sixth of twelve children. After leaving Gilmer, Horace moved to Longview where he lived with relatives and started a career in retail sales and service. He married Gladys Jean Musser in 1951, and had four children. They eventually relocated to Victoria, Texas, in 1961.
Horace was an accomplished businessman serving in various capacities with national tire companies, owning or operating retail and wholesale tire businesses across Texas. Horace was the "go to guy" to turn a struggling business unit around. He was a former President of the Lion's Club of Victoria, a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, and President of the Consumer Credit Association of Victoria.
For nearly four decades, Horace was a valued mentor and counselor to countless individuals in crisis. He will be sorely missed in this role.
Horace had a great sense of humor and was proud to have passed that along to several generations. He was an avid hunter, especially with his sons and friends, and always had remarkable stories to share. Horace and his wife, Mildred Lankford Evans, moved to Boerne in 1999, to retire after residing for many years in Portland, Texas. In his later years, Horace developed his talent for writing poetry, eventually publishing a collection of his works in the book Shades of Green in 2004.
Horace was most proud of his four children and their families. He is survived by his sons, Ivan Green and wife Judy of Waco, Phillip Green and wife Sandy of Boerne, David Green and wife Denise of San Antonio; daughter, Sarah Trew and husband Phil of Weatherford; and his grandchildren: Jonathan, Jacob, James, Aaron, Michael, Cody, Hannah and Joshua Green, Mitchell and Marcus Trew, Laura Green Srp, and Meredith Trew Harper. He was blessed with 6 great grandchildren. Horace is also survived by his siblings: James Green, Joe Green, Mavinee Green, Carolyn Becker and Sue Sellers.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Eva Mae Humphrey, Ruth Shelley, Louise Oney Green, and brothers, Homer, Fred and Norris Green.
