Obituary:

Garnice Ruth (Griffin) Brown, loving mother of John Brown, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Regent Care Nursing Home in San Antonio, Texas.

Garnice was born the second of five girls to Elbert and Virginia (Wernette) Griffin on August 6, 1922 in Devine, Texas. In 1940, she graduated from Devine High School. During the War Effort Garnice worked at Camp Stanley stuffing bullets in machine gun belts. She worked at Kelly Field Air Force Base in Civil Service. She also worked at Randolph Air Force Base where she was a Personnel Director.

She was a very giving person. Friends and neighbors would bring their pets over so Garnice could clip their fur. Garnice enjoyed sewing. She made clothes for John and herself. She even sewed the seat covers for John's car.

When John was employed with the American Institute of Foreign Study, Garnice accompanied him, his wife, and 16 high school students to Europe.

She was a resident of Regent Care Nursing Home in San Antonio for five and a half years.

Garnice was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Virginia Griffin, and two sisters, Geraldine Cunningham and Neva Jo Simmons.

Garnice is survived by her Son, John Brown, his wife, Lanni, and their daughters; Elizabeth Ruth Brown Gagnon of Hong Kong, China, Rebekah Rie Brown Weir of Dallas, and Sarah Marie Brown Boerner of Boerne. She is also survived by two sisters, Mavis McCullough of Hondo, and Mildred "Honey" Rogers of Austin.

A graveside service will be held Friday, February 14, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at Boerne Cemetery with Pastor Warren Beemer officiating.
