Bobby Rogers of Boerne, Texas, "A Good Barber, A Very Good Musician, and A Great Car Salesman," went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at the age of 81. He was born the youngest of seven children to Willie C. Rogers and Hattie Lamb Rogers on July 10, 1932, in Nashville, Arkansas.
Bobby was six weeks old when his family moved to Paris, Texas. When he was nine years of age, his family moved to Wellington, Texas. At a young age, he longed to learn to play the fiddle. He began fiddle lessons at the age of eleven. When he was fifteen, his family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, and he continued his fiddle training and played with small bands. At the age of nineteen, he joined Bill Mack and the Black Mountain Boys Band, playing on KWFT Radio and Country Shows. In 1951, Bobby joined the Army National Guard. He served eight years in the 49th and 36th Division as a Cook and Mess Sergeant at Wichita Falls and San Antonio. In 1953, he attended Lewis Barber College in San Antonio as a Barber. In 1968 he started a new career at Main Lincoln Mercury and in 1971, he moved to North Park Lincoln Mercury. He was in sales for twenty-seven years. He remained involved in his music career on a part-time basis and played with such artists as Bob Wills, Jim Reeves, Marty Robbins, the Circle C Band, the Music Masters, the Bunkhouse Boys, the Cornerstone Church Bluegrass Band, the Dave Laughlin Band, the Boerne Assembly of God Music Department, the Maranatha Choir First Baptist Church of Boerne, the Kronkosky Place Senior Center, and many more. He was a member of the Prospect Hill Lodge #1247 and Elks Lodge #216, the United Fiddlers Association of Texas and the Old Time Fiddlers Association, and the Kronkosky Place Senior Center.
He married his wife, Albertha Grohman Rogers, on April 18, 1954, and she died earlier this year. They were married for fifty-eight years. They had two sons, Glen Rogers (deceased) and Daniel Rogers of Boerne; his daughter-in-law, Georganna Rogers (deceased); two grandchildren, Jason Rogers and Jenifer Rogers of Boerne; his brother and sister, Jeff Rogers and Opal Scott; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fred Grohman, Jr., Leroy Grohman (deceased), Richard Grohman, Chuck Kauffman, Betty Grohman (deceased), Marilyn Grohman, Alice Puddle Grohman, and Linda Rogers. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
