Donna Jean Russell Gibson passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013, in San Antonio, Texas. She was 90 years old and a resident of Boerne, Texas. She was born the youngest of eleven in Ashland, Nebraska, to Carl V. and Myrtle Russell on February 18, 1923.
While living in San Diego, California, Donna loved to attend her grandchildren's sporting events. She loved to cook family favorites, especially potato salad and fried chicken, and she was an avid reader. She was the family caretaker, devoting herself to caring for family or dear friends during times of illness. Her schnauzer, Caleb, was her devoted companion for the last 15 years. Donna was a member at the Kronkosky Place Senior Center and enjoyed spending time there. She especially loved playing dominoes, dressing up for Funky Wednesdays, and spending time with special friends. One of Donna's greatest legacies she leaves her family is the gift of laughter.
Donna is preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, and her husband of 32 years, Gerald G. Gibson. She is survived by her five children: Dennis Gibson and wife Eliana of San Diego, California; Sharlee Read of Boerne, Texas, and her former husband, Steve Forrester; Marta Wood and husband Tom of San Diego, California; Terry Gibson of San Diego, California, and his former wife Kim; and Jerry Gibson and wife Valerie of San Diego, California. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Sean Forrester and wife Wendy, Troy Gibson, Shannon Roberts and husband Rick, Chris Wood, Mark Gibson and wife Jessica, Wesley Wood, Ryan Gibson and wife Ashlee, Corey Gibson, Kevin Gibson, and Caitlin Gibson; and her great grandchildren: Lorelei Forrester, Tori Roberts, Lexie Forrester, and Austin Roberts.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of St. Luke's Baptist Hospital, Evercare Hospice, and all of our friends and family for their support.
