Obituary:

Violet Vernelle Asher Minor passed away at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, November 2, 2013, in Harper, Texas. She was 80 years old. She was born in San Antonio to Dallas and Violet Asher on August 25, 1933. She is preceded in death by her parents and her infant son.

Vernelle was raised in Leon Springs and attended school there. She met her future husband, Dale Minor, when she was 17 and started attending all of his baseball games with the Hill Country League, now known as the Boerne White Sox. Dale was drafted into the army after they had been married for 2 years. When he came home on leave, Vernelle decided and was determined she was going back to El Paso with him and that was that. Their first daughter was born in the El Paso Army Hospital. Vernelle and Dale moved back to Boerne in 1955. In the mid 1960's, Dale became the Team Manager of the Hill Country League and Vernelle became the scorekeeper. She liked to watch sports on TV as well. She rooted for the Texas Longhorns and Mickey Mantle and the New York Yankees. She also enjoyed bowling and was the secretary for the San Antonio Lance Asher Bowling League and the Boerne Turn Verein League.

Everyone could tell Vernelle and Dale had a marriage made in Heaven. They were inseparable and always put each other first. Dale said last Sunday on their 62nd wedding anniversary that God had sent him an angel. Vernelle was extremely family-oriented. The more family she could have around her, the happier she was. Her grandchildren were precious to her. She raised April as her own and she was very supportive of Wade and Brandon's baseball days.

Vernelle was a talented cook and no one ever went hungry in her presence. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she went all out with decorations and food. Vernelle's energy could not be matched and even at the end, she always wore a smile.

First and foremost, Jesus was the center of her life. She lived for Him and others could see His light and love through her. She looked forward to her Sundays with her church family, Four Square Gospel Church in Kerrville.

Vernelle is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Dale Minor of Harper; her 2 daughters, Debbie Carver of Boerne and Donna Smith and husband Walton of Harper; and her 3 grandchildren, April Minor, Wade Smith, and Brandon Smith and wife Megan. She was blessed with 8 great grandchildren: Reagan, Noah, Jakob, and Trinity Minor and Lance, Chloe, Bailey, and J.C. Smith; and 3 step great grandchildren, Devin, Daisy, and Cameron. She is also survived by her sister, Doris Blair and husband J.D. of Boerne; her brother, Delmar Asher of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. at the Boerne Cemetery with Pastor Dale Friedrich officiating.
