Byron David Rogers, age 86, of Boerne, Texas, and formerly of Freeport, Texas, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 25, 1927, near Chico, Texas. He always said he was "born on the west fork of the Trinity River in a log cabin." He was the son of the late Raymond Byron Rogers and Mable Counts Erwin.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patsy Winborn Rogers; son David Raymond "Speedy" Rogers and wife Sharon of Lake Jackson, Texas, daughter Patricia Ann Rogers "Trish" Schwab and husband Richard of Boerne, Texas, and son Barton Byron Rogers and Anne Noland of Boerne, Texas; two grandsons, Tyrell Ramsey Schwab and Zachary Kane Schwab and step-grandchildren Ryan (Laura) Schwab and Matthew Schwab; a sister, Patsy Erwin Diehl and her husband Carl of Lake Jackson; brother-in-law Dr. William B. Winborn and wife Margaret of Boerne; nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and mother and father-in-law.
Mr. Rogers was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving as a Seaman First Class in World War II. He worked for more than 35 years for the Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, Texas, and retired in 1985 as a Production Foreman. Patsy and he moved to the Texas Hill Country in l985, and they both enjoyed many years together exploring the area. Mr. Rogers was a soft-spoken, tall, gentle man and was happiest when he was surrounded by his family. He was a craftsman and passed that talent on to his children and grandchildren. He built a wooden day cruiser boat, many electronic sound systems, and the family home in Freeport, Texas. He enjoyed playing and listening to music. He especially loved listening to Dixieland and Boogie Woogie.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Boerne Church of Christ, in Boerne, Texas, Dr. Robert Jubela officiating. A graveside service will be conducted immediately following at Boerne City Cemetery in Boerne, Texas.
