Obituary:

John E. Henry, age 91 years 10 months of Boerne, Texas joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 12, 2013. Also greeting him in Heaven are his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Elene Williamson Henry; his parents, Raymond W. Henry and May Belle Moore Henry; his great granddaughter, Bronte Moore; and numerous cousins and in laws. John E. was a hero in World War 2, serving as a tank commander in Germany, Belgium, and France including the Battle of the Bulge. As a part of the 3rd armored division, he participated in liberating numerous concentration camps and towns receiving the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Later, he served on the city council in Grand Prairie as one of the "Wiz Kids" in the early 1950's. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to a variety of careers and occupations. He drove a bus, delivered mail, was a security guard at LTV, owned and operated a service station in Grand Prairie, sold Life Insurance and was agency manager for several companies, was a home builder, owned, drove, and maintained long haul trucks, and in his "spare" time sold used cars whenever he could. One of his hobbies and great enjoyments was being a part of the Hella Mounted Black Horse Patrol of Dallas benefiting crippled children. On the patrol for ten years, he participated in numerous parades including Presidential inaugurations and the Rose Bowl parade and drill competitions throughout the United States serving as captain.John E. made friends wherever he went and had a charisma and spunk that made him a crowd favorite through his antics, sayings, and sense of humor that was one of a kind! In his own words, "He was a piece of work!" He loved his family beyond words and served the Lord in numerous churches as deacon and in other leadership roles!John E. is survived by his daughters Sue Braddock and husband Tom and Pat Harkrider and husband Mike; his grandchildren John Moore (wife Pippa), Shawn Moore (wife Brandy), Lindsey Deringer (husband Anthony), and Katie Chisholm (husband Andy); his four great grandchildren Nicola, Lucas, Jordan, and Colin Moore, and also Ruthie Ann Deringer (arriving in November); numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and a beautiful Golden Retriever named Lady!The funeral will be Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Boerne with a visitation starting one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Southland Cemetery in Grand Prairie.
