Harold Ranzau was born December 11, 1923, to Paul and Hilda Ranzau, in Boerne, Texas. He died on January 1, 2013, in Boerne.
Harold was a 1941 graduate of Boerne High School, and attended Texas A&M for one semester. When Pearl Harbor was bombed, he came home to farm and ranch in order to provide food for the war effort. As a young man, he traveled the Hill Country rodeo circuit as a steer roper. He loved to go to dances with his wife Marjorie, play 42 dominoes, and was a huge fan of TV rodeo, John Wayne, Aggie Football, and the Lonesome Dove movie. He was President of the Boerne School Board in the 1960's, and his legacy there was to reinstitute baseball as a high school sport at BHS, as well as getting the new Boerne High School built. He was also a member of the Kerrville Federal Land Bank, President of the Kendall County Fair Association and the Guadalupe-Blanco River Association. He was Director of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raising Association and a member of the American Simmental Association. Harold was very proud of his Simmental cattle, and showed and sold them all over the United States and Mexico. He loved his ranch, and his profession of farming and ranching was his passion.
Harold is survived by a daughter Paula Jenniges of Austin, a son Ray Ranzau of San Antonio, a son Joe Ranzau of Boerne, a sister Marjorie Ingenhuett of Comfort, 6 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie in 2010.
