On November 22, 2012, Joe Allen Clark, our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend passed away at his home in Rockport, Texas. He passed away very peacefully and labors no more, but is resting in the arms of His Heavenly Father. He lived a very full and productive life, always giving and teaching to those around him.
He was born on April 30, 1934, in San Antonio, Texas to Joseph Samuel Clark and Lula Ellen Rinner Clark. He was preceded in death by both parents; his son, Joe Allen Clark, Jr.; his grandson, Joseph Lance Wisian; his granddaughter, Hailey-Marie Frantzen; and his brother, Charles Clark.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Muriel Elizabeth Clark. Children include Jean Evans Clark of Boerne; Bonnie Sue Frantzen and husband Carl of Boerne; Cathy Elaine Markell and husband Steve of Dilley, TX; Carol Lynn Wisian and husband Jerry of Blanco, TX; and Gary Allen Clark and wife Pam of Harper, TX. Grandchildren are: April Maynard, James Postert, Andrew and Barrett Frantzen, Breanna DesRuisseau, Tamara Mitchell, Jonathan Markell, Courtney Wisian Crosland, Aidan, Savannah, Gaelan, Silas, Larkin and Rylan Clark. He also had 11 great grandchildren.
Joe was an avid outdoors person. He was always building things, hunting, fishing, camping, racing cars, and caring for his home and yard. He especially loved his roses and flower beds full of beautiful flowers. Later when he retired at Rockport, he was in his workshop building and making projects and gifts for his family and friends. He also took up one of his loves and that was painting in acrylics. He gave many of these away for Christmas gifts to family and friends.
In his early years, he went to school and became a journeyman sheet metal worker and worked at various businesses, but mainly at Mueller & Wilson in San Antonio. Those early years were centered on his family as he became the teacher in their lives, teaching them to do all kinds of things such as skiing and boating, working in the yard, building projects, and gardening. Music was also very important in his life as his parents and relatives would gather together and play and sing music.
Joe ran for school board in 1975 and served 9 years. This was a very special time in his life as he loved and felt honored that he was able to give back to his community. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Boerne where his construction company helped build the Educational Building. He also served in the Democratic Party in Boerne. Joe always wanted to run his own business so in 1975, he formed the Clark Construction Co. He officed at his home until he moved his business to Main St. in Boerne. He took in a partner, Walter Stroman, and it then became Clark and Stroman Construction Company. He remodeled and built many projects in the surrounding area, including Kerrville. He especially loved doing commercial projects.
His health began to fail so he and his devoted wife, Muriel, packed up and moved to Rockport, TX. It was there that Muriel and he lived their dream of fishing and getting away from the hectic lifestyle of being self-employed. He spent his final days doing what he wanted, when he wanted.
As we reflect upon the life of Joe Clark, we are rejoicing in his life and how he really is at total peace and rest. "Our" patriarch will be greatly missed and now we can remember the wonderful things that he instilled in each one of us and now his legacy will live on in each one of us.
