Richard was a most kind and loving person and a servant of the Lord, happy and always smiling with a twinkle in his eye. His peaceful passing was in Boerne, Texas, where he was wrapped in the loving arms of his devoted family. The services will take place on Saturday, October 13, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. in Greenville, Texas, at Wesley United Methodist Church where he and his wife are members. The Reverend Gene Wisdom will officiate, and the burial will be with military honors at Forest Park Cemetery in Greenville. Pallbearers will include: Michael Baum, Tim Baum, David Bishop, Richard Crossland, Bob Noe and Tom Poulter. Honorary pallbearers will include: Don Bolin, Tom Loposer, John Reynolds, Rusty Warren and members of the Horizon Sunday School Class.
Richard was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, March 29, 1932, to Ernest Eldon Baum, MD, and Hettie Maloy Baum who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by one brother, William Eldon Baum. Richard is survived by his wife Eula Kathryn (Allen) Baum, who had the love of her life for almost 60 years. They were married in Dallas, Texas, March 30, 1953. He is also survived by one son, Richard Allen Baum, MD, and his wife Diane Louise (Holtin) Baum and their daughters Sara Kathryn and Amanda Louise Baum; former sister-in-law Pat Baum; nephew Michael Baum and his family, Colleen, Elizabeth, Alexandra and Kevin; nephew Tim Baum and his family, Rachel and Jack; and niece Sharon Ellingson and her family, Jerry, Nathan, Sarah, Ryan and Stephanie.
A veteran of the Marine Corps, Richard served his country as a machine gunner in Korea. He was awarded two purple hearts and was recommended for the bronze and silver stars for his bravery
Richard was a member of Golden Kiwanis; The American Legion; Fox, 2, 5 Marine Reunion Group; and Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. He was a veteran of the Korean War; a former Boy Scout Leader; a graduate of Oklahoma University with a bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering. He worked at L-3 (which had many name changes); he started at Temco and then retired after 30 years from Raytheon as an engineering manager in 1991.
Richard gave generously and anonymously to his community through organizations that support the poor, widows and orphans. In his memory, donations can be made to FISH Hunt County Shared Ministries, 2805 King Street, Greenville, TX 75401.
Richard loved fishing and camping with a passion and spent many days in the mountains and on the lake with family and friends.
The family gives all the glory to God for Richard's faithful Christian life and his Eternal life through Christ.
