Obituary:

Ellen Lillie Schwope Whiting died peacefully in her sleep on October 4, 2012, at Riverview Nursing Home. Ellen was born at home in North Bexar County along the Balcones Creek outside Boerne on July 3, 1918. She was the third oldest of six children born to Hilmar and Lillie Schwope. She graduated from Boerne High School in 1936 and remained at home to help care for her ill mother and work on the farm until she met and married Reece Whiting on March 1, 1940. She was a farmer and a rancher's wife who loved to hunt, fish, play 42 and Bunco, and spend time outdoors. She was very close to her five siblings throughout all of her life. She was also a dedicated volunteer at the Rainbow Senior Center, now known as Kronkosky Place, for over two decades accruing over 10,000 hours.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reece Whiting; her brother, Edwin Schwope; her sister Frieda Cravey; and her youngest sister, Mildred Sheldon. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Gladys Whiting; grandson Ty Whiting and his wife Stephanie; granddaughter Valerie Whiting and her partner Tonya Mills; two great grandchildren, Kyle and Courtney Whiting; and two sisters Dixie Pfeiffer and Verta Bergmann; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Ellen will always hold a place in our hearts and she will be deeply missed.

A funeral service will be held on October 9, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Boerne Cemetery.
