Obituary:

The Thompson/Compton families are sad to announce the death of our beloved Alison Hayward Compton at 9:30 a.m., Friday, July 20, 2012. Alison died peacefully at the home she shared with her daughter, Carolyn, in Boerne, Texas where she has been living for the last 2 years. She was surrounded by daughters Carolyn and Katy, and granddaughter Meg, as well as her white German shepherd, Sascha. She fought hard to live, and died on her own terms. Through the last few years of her illness, there were many times we thought she was at death’s door. But she surprised us all with her strength, indomitable will, and ability to heal.

Alison Hayward Griffiths was born in Penarth, Wales on May 22, 1920.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur Compton, of Michigan and her sister, Elizabeth and husband David Randall, of England.

Also surviving are her 5 children: son Charles and his wife Aileen Thompson of England, daughter Veronica Thompson of California, daughter Katy and her husband Roger Mason of Michigan, son Josh and his wife Bernie Thompson of Australia, and daughter Carolyn Compton of Texas.

Her grandchildren: Meg and husband Kevin Wheeler, Stephanie Clarkin, Chad and Bredt Mason of Michigan, Alison Thompson Dell, Sarah and Scott Thompson of England, Camilla Thompson and partner Keith Payne of Australia, and Shane, Christopher and Andrew Thompson of Australia.

Great grandchildren: Oliver and Max Campeau of Australia, Alexandra and Isabella Wheeler, Aiden Clarkin, Nikita and Meghan Mason of Michigan, and Kohen and Izabelle, children of Christopher Thompson and Leesa of Australia.

And, last but not least, part of her extended family in Texas; the Texas Hill Country Chapter Hog Family.

Alison was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Dorothy Griffiths.

Also, by beloved white German shepherd, Schnee.

Alison was a proud, generous, and involved parent and grandparent. She never missed a birthday or Christmas for anyone, and was lovingly known as Gie to all the grandkids. Giving was one of her great joys in life. She loved all of her family fiercely and was the glue that held us all together, bringing us together when our lives were busy and we were in many different locations.

She had grace and dignity. She was intelligent, creative and witty, worldly, and well traveled. She loved beauty and beautiful things, and created it wherever she was. She was gutsy, hard headed, and just a “tough old broad”.

A visitation will be held Sunday, July 22, 2012, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home.
