Obituary:

Don Barton passed away on Friday, June 29, 2012, in Boerne, Texas, at the age of 85. He was born on September 6, 1926, in Freeport, Illinois.

Don served his country in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne Division. He started his career at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis where he worked on the Mercury Redstone Rocket project. This was prior to opening his own manufacturing business in St. Louis. Later, he moved to Dallas and he became the owner of Acme Sign Company of Dallas for many years. He served as Chairman of the Trustees of the Dallas Elks Lodge No. 71 for nine years. Don enjoyed traveling, being outside, and loved to be near the water. Don was a true family man. Bee, his “sweet thang,” was his constant companion. He treasured the time he spent with his family and he absolutely adored his grandchildren.

Don is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bee Barton; his son, Jeff Barton and his wife Erin of Boerne; his granddaughter, Morgan; and his grandson, Ben. He is also survived by his brothers, Gene Barton and his wife Margaret of Dallas and Roy Barton and his wife Nancy of St. Charles, Missouri. Don is preceded in death by his son Jon and his daughter Donna.
