Alonzo Woodrow “Woody” Taylor passed away in San Antonio on Thursday, May 10, 2012, at the age of 81. He was born on October 29, 1930, in Limestone County, Alabama to Bob and Annie Taylor. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother Rabon Taylor; his grandchildren Melody and David Taylor; and his great grandchild, Christian Taylor.
Woody is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Edna Taylor; his children Roger Taylor and his wife Valerie of San Antonio, Bruce Taylor of Boerne, Annette Taylor Raley of California, Lora Taylor Hornberger and husband Blair of Frisco, Woodrow “Woodie” Taylor and his wife Deborah Gussman of San Antonio, Teresa Taylor Schleyer and her husband Shane of Boerne; and his grandchildren Melanie, Brent and his wife Christine, Kelsi, Angela, Philip, Taylor, Jacee, Raina, and Cody. Woody was blessed with 5 great grandchildren: Seren, Everett, Caedmon, Belia, and Mason.
Woody was a devoted family man. He was an avid Spurs fan. He served in the US Air Force as a tactical drill sergeant during the Korean War. He was a successful business man, owning and operating several service stations in San Antonio. He served on the San Antonio Independent Service Station Association during that time. In his younger years, he was very athletic. He coached and played baseball and basketball. He was always involved in whatever sport his children participated in. He was president of the Lee High School and Boerne Athletic Booster Clubs. Woody’s church was extremely important to him. He served as deacon, a Bible class teacher, and worked with youth groups.
A visitation will be held at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home on Sunday, May 13, 2012, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Oak Hills Church South Room on Monday, May 14, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. A private family burial will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Thursday, May 17, 2012.
