Samuel Jones Stevens III, 60, of Boerne entered Heaven on Thursday, March 8, 2012, after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. He was born on June 2, 1951, in Dallas, TX to Bernice (Chappel) and Samuel J Stevens, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Becky Chester. Sam is survived by his wife and best friend Sheree (Garrett) and Bob, his beloved red tabby cat. He is also survived by his sister Diana Capehart, Richardson, TX; mother-in-law, Frances Garrett, Boerne; and sisters-in- law, Cathy Garrett, Atlanta, GA and Pat Garrett, Dallas, TX. In addition, Sam will be missed by his many nieces and nephews and friends who loved him dearly.
Sam attended public schools in Richardson, Texas and graduated cum laude with a degree in Economics and Finance from the University of Texas at Dallas. Sam was a successful Real Estate Broker and Appraiser for over 30 years. In 2007, Sam and Sheree decided it was time to act on their longtime dream of living in the Texas Hill Country. They chose Boerne and Sam oversaw the design, construction, and furnishing of their dream home, Bobcat Ranch. Though Sam was only able to enjoy his retirement and new home a short while, his spirit will remain a constant presence in this incredible contemporary home.
Sam was a man of great vision and many talents who never compromised. He was a perfectionist in everything he did, from building contemporary furniture to making biscuits. Though Sam was originally diagnosed in 1997, he overcame his cancer and continued to work to ensure an early retirement and goal of building his dream home. The return of cancer while in the midst of building was a shock, but Sam persevered and even continued with projects around the house until last month. God has big plans for Sam and no doubt he is making something beautiful in Heaven for us to enjoy when we see him again.
Sheree wishes to thank Holly Kinahan, ANP-C and all of the other talented and caring nurses from the 12th floor at MD Anderson; Dr. Apostolia Tsimberidou, MD Anderson; Dr. Marisa Sandera, START; and Dr. Manuel Ybarra and his compassionate staff at Advanced Consultants of SA. A special thank you to Christi Cole, RN from Tri County Home Health, for her many months of love and attention while caring for Sam at home. All of you made a huge difference, helping Sam in his battle, and are greatly appreciated.
A celebration of Sam’s life will be held on May 5, 2012, at The El Max Ranch in Boerne, 511 Kreutzberg Road at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to ACCRF (Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Research Foundation) P.O.
