Obituary:

Joe Godsey went peacefully home to our Lord January 16, 2012, at the age of 80. He was born November 4, 1931, in Perry County, Kentucky to John and Eunice Godsey. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Joan Godsey. Joe is survived by his son Wayne Godsey and wife Chris; his daughter Sheryl D’Spain and husband Brett; grandchildren John, Carol and Brian Godsey and Dalton D’Spain; and his brother Fred Godsey.

Joe met his devoted wife Joan in 1956 in Miami, Florida where they were both attending college. The two schools were planning a Christmas dance and they were both on the planning committees. It was meant to be for the two love birds and they were married August 31, 1957. Shortly after marrying, Joe and Joan moved to St. Louis, Missouri where Joe graduated from Parks College, St. Louis as an Aeronautical Engineer. During their tenure in St. Louis, their son Wayne was born. After the birth of Wayne, the young family moved to Dayton, Ohio where their daughter Sheryl was born. Joe worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio from 1960-1968 where he was in charge of wind tunnel and flight testing of aircraft and missiles and investigating aircraft and missile accidents. The entire family moved to San Antonio in 1968 and then later to Boerne in 1972 where Joe and Joan resided until their passings. Joe worked at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio from 1968-1986. At Kelly, he was in charge of evaluating and testing all modifications and repairs that changed the aerodynamics or weight and balance of an aircraft. He also monitored the weight and center of gravity of all aircraft managed at Kelly AFB. He was known as the weight and balance specialist at Kelly Air Force Base. In 1986, he retired from Civil Service with the position of GS-12.

Joe and Joan were members of the Boerne Bunch square dancers. They were members of the First United Methodist Church from 1972-1998 and then St. Mark Presbyterian Church. Joe was involved with the Communication’s Ministry at St. Mark, and he was a supporter of Stephen’s Ministry. In his spare time, Joe doted on Joan. He loved shopping at Costco and HEB. He was also an avid fan of the San Antonio Spurs. He was a doting grandfather who attended numerous school and athletic events of his grandchildren over the last several years.

The memorial service will be held at St. Mark Presbyterian Church located at 208 West Bandera Road, Boerne, Texas 78006 on Saturday, January 21, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Stephen’s Ministry at St. Mark.
