Marshall Lee Plummer was born April 28, 1917, in Mullin, Texas to Will and Fannie Mae Plummer. He passed away in Boerne, Texas on June 17, 2011.
He graduated from Venus High School in 1935, and then attended North Texas State College. On March 11, 1941, Marshall entered the U.S. Army. He was chosen to attend Officer Candidate School and graduated as a Second Lieutenant on October 3, 1942. He served in five campaigns, including the Battle of the Bulge, during World War II as a member of the 11th Armored Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He left active duty in 1946 and remained a member of the reserves, ultimately earning the rank of Lt. Colonel.
Marshall married Beverly Beeler on June 13, 1942, in Quartzite, Arizona. In 1947, Marshall and Beverly went into the fence business in Texas City, Texas. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Kiwanis Club. They sold their business in 1967, and retired to Ingram, Texas. After retirement, he enjoyed living on their ranch, traveling with a group of friends in their RV, playing 42, and hunting and fishing with friends and especially with his family. In his later years, he lived in New Braunfels and in Boerne at Menger Springs. A very special thanks goes to the staff that were so dedicated to his care.
Marshall is survived by a son, George Marshall (Alice) and a daughter, Anna Clare Ray (Dennis). He had five grandchildren, Gayna Johnson (Stephen), Randy Plummer (Tracy), Jennifer Morrison (Craig), Kristofer Marshall Ray (Brandi), and Ryan Ray (Jennifer). He had eleven great-grandchildren, Ethan Ray, Marshall Morrison, Mitchell Morrison, Dennis Morrison, Claire Johnson, Emily Johnson, Henry Johnson, Elli Plummer, Marshall Plummer, Blythe Ray, and Vivian Ray. He has one remaining brother, W.H. (Red) Plummer, and a sister-in-law, Mildred Plummer, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his wife, Beverly, his parents, sister Lorene Vandevender (Van), brother Bob Plummer, brother Edgar Plummer, and sister-in-law Frances Plummer.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2011, at 10 AM at Garden of Memory in Kerrville. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2011, at 1 PM at First United Methodist in Boerne. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Boerne Music Ministry at 205 East James Street, Boerne, Texas 78006.
