Robert Lee (Bob) Kruger, 83, of Boerne, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 1, 2011. He was born in Encinal, Texas, on November 7, 1927, son of Erwin and Christine Kruger. He attended school in Encinal and Cotulla, and graduated from Cotulla High School as Valedictorian.
On June 22, 1951, he married Doris Marie Smith in Sabinal, Texas. They resided in Sabinal, Hondo, Hebbronville, and then moved to Boerne in 1980. He was a Manager of Alamo Lumber Co. / Vaughan & Sons for 47 years. He served in the United States Navy, and was an active member of St. Helena’s Episcopal Church, Boerne Optimists, Kendall County Fair Association, Boerne Turn Verein, and served on church vestry boards. He volunteered at Hill Country Family Services and served on the United Way Board. Bob was an avid outdoorsman, going on elk and mule deer hunting trips with his friends. He loved fishing, hunting, golfing, and traveling with friends and family, and especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris, son-in-law, Buck Newsom of Pearsall, three daughters, Sue (Gregg) Williams of Boerne, Georgie Kay (David) Berry of Huntsville, Elizabeth (Walter) Stroman of Boerne, one son, Robert Smith (Honda) of Joshua, 10 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristine Newsom, three sisters, Lou Causey, Marie Boatwright, and Dorothy Jacobs, and two brothers, Fred and Bill Kruger.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 3, 2011, from 5-7 pm at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home in Boerne, Texas. The funeral will be on Friday, March 4, 2011, at 11:00am at St. Helena’s Episcopal Church in Boerne. Graveside services will be Saturday, March 5, 2011, at the Sabinal Cemetery in Sabinal, Texas, at 11:00am.
