Thayne Henry Cuevas, 69, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2011, in San Antonio. He was born on December 4, 1941, in Honolulu, Hawaii to Henry and Flora Cuevas. He is preceded in death by his father.
Thayne met his future wife while he was attending Abilene Christian College, and they were married shortly after his graduation. He was commissioned in February of 1964 into the United States Air Force and served for 23 years before retiring as a Major. He then embarked on his second career at Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union in San Antonio until he retired as Senior Vice President of Human Resources in June of 2009. Thayne loved the Lord and throughout his life served as a Bible teacher and song leader. He had a way of making the scriptures come to life in a way that was easy for others to understand and grasp. He also served as an Elder at Randolph Church of Christ in Universal City and at the Boerne Church of Christ. He deeply loved his wife, his children and their spouses, and he adored his grandchildren.
Thayne is survived by: his loving wife of almost 47 years, Betty Cuevas; his son Chris Cuevas and his wife Mary Beth; his daughter Cynda Gibbs and her husband Billy; and his son Chuck Cuevas and his wife Jamie. Thayne was blessed with 11 grandchildren; Carley Cuevas, Kylie Cuevas, Briana Gibbs, Conner Cuevas, Billy Gibbs Jr., Cade Cuevas, Arienne Cuevas, Bayele Gibbs, Kamren Cuevas, Bekki Gibbs, and Bethani Gibbs. He is also survived by his mother Flora Cuevas, his sisters Cindy Riggs and her husband Jerry and Mavo Hutchins and her husband Rich. He also leaves behind numerous other family members and friends.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, January 6, 2011, from 6-8 PM at Boerne Church of Christ. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 7, 2011, at 10 AM also at Boerne Church of Christ.
