James G. Allen passed away on Friday, September 25, 2009, in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 82. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 10, 1927, to Albert Barker Allen and Mamie Towner Allen. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty Jane Seybert Allen, his son Michael Russell Allen, and his granddaughter Brittany Allen.
James proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was stationed in Korea in the early 1950’s. In his younger years, he loved working on automobiles. After he returned from Korea, he owned a gas station in Detroit which led to an interest in stock cars. He raced stock cars until his sweet wife told him that was enough. For the last 50 years of his life, he was what his son playfully dubbed “a workaholic.” He was a newspaper man working for the Detroit News and also the LaPrensa paper of San Antonio. He retired from the San Antonio Express after becoming Vice-President of Advertising and Marketing. James took pride in his home and his yard, continuously working on both. He cherished his family and is now so happy to be joined with his wife Betty once again.
Mr. Allen is survived by: his sons James G. “Jimmy” Allen II and his wife Theresa of Michigan, David Albert Allen and his wife Belinda of Boerne, Texas and Timothy George Allen also of Boerne; his sister Shirley Allen Rowe and her husband George of Michigan; his grandchildren Tiffany Allen of Tennessee, Jaime and Brent Allen of Michigan, Tracy Harwell, Jonathan, Brian, and Kenneth Allen of Boerne.
