Obituary:

Jimmie “Jim” Glenn Taylor won the victory after a long and courageous battle with multiple sclerosis and went to be with his Lord in heaven on Saturday, September 5, 2009, at the age of 69.

Jim was born to Hugh Clarence Taylor and Essie Lee Choate Taylor on January 24, 1940, in Longview, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas and was a Human Resource Manager in the oil and gas industry for 20 years. He served our country as a member of the United States Air Force. He was a past president of the Texas City-LaMarque Chamber of Commerce and of the Junior Achievement of the Mainland. Over the years, Jim was involved with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Jaycees, the American Petroleum Institute and the Young Republicans. He was a boy scout leader, a youth sports coach and in the Texas City High School Booster Club Leadership. Jim was also an economics instructor at College of the Mainland. He was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church in Baytown, Texas for many years before moving his membership to the First Baptist Church in Boerne, Texas. Jim’s hobbies included golf, sailing, basketball, and putting his pilot’s license to use. He enjoyed woodworking and lovingly made several furniture pieces for his wife. He listened to folk music, loved cats and was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. His sense of humor is what helped him and his family survive and deal with his battle with MS. Many people over the years have told his wife that Jim was their hero because of how he dealt with his illness and his attitude toward it. He never complained about what life had dealt him but instead managed to make jokes and bring smiles to those around him.

Jim was preceded in death by: his brothers Bob, Pat, and Bill Taylor; his nephews Bobby Taylor and Jim Bratton; his half brother Cecil Taylor; and his half sisters Hazel Breedon and Neva Hollingsworth. Jim is survived by his loving wife of over 30 years, Linda Taylor of Boerne. He also leaves behind: a very special mother-in-law, Evelyn Baldridge of Boerne; his stepson Randy Plummer and wife Tracy of Comfort, Texas; his sister Peggy Jo Bratton of Lindale, Texas; his brothers Tom Taylor of Gilmer, Texas and Jerry Taylor of Tatum, Texas; and the light of his life, his “hootie rootie,” granddaughter Elli Plummer.

A private family memorial will be held at Judson Cemetery in East Texas at a later date. Memorials may be made to Memorial Baptist Church, 600 W Sterling, Baytown, TX 77520, or to the organization of your choice.
